ANTIPOLO CITY, Rizal, Sept 1 (PIA) --The Antipolo City Police reports a steady increase in surrendering drug users and pushers from the start of July to mid-August this year.

According to the local police, a total of 1,200 individuals have turned themselves in from the period of July 1 to August 18 alone.

Earlier this month, Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares said in a press release that the city government thanks drug personalities who have voluntarily surrendered to the local authorities

In line with this, the city police in cooperation with the 16 barangay captains of Antipolo continuously monitor locals who have surrendered. Random drug tests will also be conducted in order to ensure any relapses.

The city government also aims to cover the expenses of drug users who wish to go through rehabilitation which will take 8 to 12 months and may cost up to P 20,000 per month.

The provincial government headed by Governor Rebecca “Nini” Ynares is also in the process of establishing a large-scale drug rehabilitation in the province in order to cater to locals.
