PASIG CITY - The Municipal Local Government of Cuyapo in Nueva Ecija has joined the bandwagon for ‘change’, particularly for children and youth who are in conflict with the law.
The Bahay Pag-asa Rehabilitation Center situated along Rizal Street was constructed using the P3-million incentive fund called Performance Challenge Fund (PCF) from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The municipal government gained access to the PCF after its successful compliance to the key requirements prescribed under the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).
Bahay Pag-asa is a one-storey rehabilitation center dedicated for children in conflict with the law (CICL). The facility, which is the first of its kind in Central Luzon, can house 10-20 children in conflict with the law who had committed petty and serious crimes.
DILG Secretary Ismael Sueno maintained that the DILG will continue to support local government projects that have direct and clear benefits to the people.
“While we intensify the campaign against illegal drugs, corruption and other forms of criminality, the government is equally resolved in bringing social services down to the grassroots level,” Sueno said.
Cuyapo Mayor Florida Esteban, who is on her first term as municipal mayor, thanked the DILG for putting up programs such as the PCF that will encourage more local executives to advance the level of local governance.
“The PCF is definitely welcome to us. Any help that will give extra or additional fund to LGUs for our projects is much appreciated, especially for Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA)-dependent municipalities such as ours,” Esteban said.
The municipal government also provided a counterpart fund of P1-million which will be used to finance the needed manpower and staffing like in-house psychologist, social workers, trainings and materials that will be needed inside the rehabilitation facility. (DILG)
