PASIG CITY - Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Austere A. Panadero has been conferred with the prestigious Government Service Award from the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) in recognition of his work as a veteran public servant who performs his duties with utmost excellence and unquestionable integrity.
Panadero is the second DILG personnel who received the said Award after former Secretary Jesse M. Robredo was posthumously awarded in the same category back in 2013.
He has spent over 35 years in government service under six presidents - from former President Corazon Aquino to incumbent President Rodrigo R. Duterte. He has served under 11 DILG Secretaries as senior official with a remarkable ability to handle and cope with change thereby ensuring policy and program continuity despite leadership transitions.
A Career Executive Service Officer (CESO), Panadero was grateful for the recognition saying it inspired him to continue his work to promote good local governance.
“Thank you very much to the Ateneo de Manila University for the recognition. This will inspire us in the DILG to carry on with our mandate to pursue excellence in local governance as we urge local government units to become Matino, Mahusay, at Maaasahan,” he said.
As DILG Undersecretary for Local Government, Panadero has proven his passion and remarkable work ethics by spearheading the difficult task of transforming local governments to become participative, effective, transparent and accountable.
He is well-known within the executive branch and good government circles for advocating inclusive local governance, promoting gender equality, sustainable development, and the welfare of the indigenous people, elderly, and persons with disability.
Panadero was among the four individuals and one group who were cited during the recent ADMU’s Traditional University Awards. Other awardees are: Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines for Parangal Lingkod Sambayanan, Aga M. Butocan for Gawad Tanglaw ng Lahi, Beatriz P. Tesoro also for Gawad Tanglaw ng Lahi, and Adolfo S. Azcuna for Lux-in-Domino Award.
The Government Service award is given to any holder of a position in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches and the constitutional bodies of government both in the national or local levels. It is given to a candidate who rendered exemplary service for the common good, such as exercising a preferential option for the poor in the execution of his or her duties. He or she must have consistently shown integrity, competence, dedication, and sound judgment in the course of his or her service in government; he or she possesses inspired leadership and encourages similar service from others, and promotes partnerships and innovation.
