MANILA -- Secretary Paulyn Jean B. Rosell-Ubial of the Department of Health assured the Filipino-American community during a recent forum that the Philippine health agenda’s tagline “All for Health Towards Health for All” will ensure the protection for Filipinos from the high cost of health care.
The forum was organized by the Consulate General in cooperation with Ms. Linda Borromeo of Autism Hearts Foundation and its NY-NJ Advisory Council.
During her presentation of the Philippine health agenda 2016-2022, she said that 92% of Filipinos are covered by the national health insurance program in 2015. She expressed hope that by the end of 2016, DOH will reach 100% of Filipinos.
In addition, DOH aims to provide physical check -up packages, which include sugar testing, CBC, urinalysis, blood pressure among others, to 20 million poorest Filipinos by the end of 100 days or on December 25.
The results of the check up will eventually be stored as DOH data on the medical requirement to maintain the health of the Filipino people, particularly the poor and the marginalized, she added.
Secretary Ubial acknowledged that the quest for universal health could be achieved through the collective effort of the all stakeholders, including the non-health sectors such as the finance and economic agencies.
“I urge that we, as a community of Filipinos, rally behind the targets and goals of the Duterte administration to ensure the universal health care for Filipinos,” said the Secretary.
In his welcome remarks, Consul General Mario L. de Leon, Jr. recognized the untiring work for our country of the Secretary of Health as well as other members of the Cabinet who are in New York for the UNGA and wished them the best as they assume more responsibilities in their departments and agencies.
He thanked the Autism Hearts Foundation and its NY-NJ Advisory Council for their support to people with a special learning ability and for providing them nurturing atmosphere to hone their talents and creativity, and become productive members of the society.
He also took the opportunity to convey appreciation to the doctors and nurses who attended for their fellowship and community building particularly through medical and nursing missions in the Philippines.
