MANILA -   The 6.6 kilometer diversion road that will help ease traffic in the capital of Zamboanga Sibugay and congested cities of Zamboanga Peninsula is now serviceable.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office 9 Director Jorge U. Sebastian Jr reported that the Ipil Diversion Road Phase 1 which runs from Junction National Highway of Barangays Pangi, Guituan, Taway, Suclema, and Tiayon, in the municipality of Ipil, is now open to vehicular traffic, following the completion of construction activities.

An amount of P162.7 million was allocated for the implementation of the diversion road project that involves concreting, installation of reinforced concrete pipe culvert, slope protection, and provision of reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings.

“The Ipil Diversion Road will improve road safety by helping ease traffic on main roads of Pagadian to Zamboanga City. It will enhance the accessibility and transportation of services and commodities in the province, eventually improving the livelihood of locals,” said Sebastian.

Zamboanga Sibugay, the youngest province in the Zamboanga Peninsula has an approximate total land area of 322,830 hectares is an agriculture-rich province.

The province is also blessed with excellent tourist destinations – interesting mountain formations, picture-perfect waterfalls, caves with bats as well as stalactites, hot springs, white sand beaches, and fish and sea snake sanctuaries. (DPWH)
