INDANG, Cavite (PIA) – The Provincial Health Office (PHO) appealed to the community especially to household members to clean their houses (in and out) including the environs to prevent mosquito from breeding in habitations.
The plea was made during the house to house visitation on October 5 in said barangay by members of the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (PESU) led by Dr. Nelson Soriano and the team from Cavite Department of Health (DoH).
In the course of the visitation, Dr. Soriano observed many areas within the house premises have found traces of stagnant water which according to him is the perfect breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
Residents in the barangay who were found to have a symptoms of Chikungunya were advised to proceed to the church (which is the venue of the teams) to undergo a free blood sampling.
According to PHO, latest count as of October 5, of suspected number of cases of Chikungunya in the town of Indang alone is 512 with two each in the cities of General Trias and Dasmariñas. Barangay Agus-Us in Indang topped the number of suspected cases with 189 followed by Guyam Malaki with 169 and Guyan Munti with 91.
To counter the increasing number of cases, PHO recommends to seriously undertake advocacy on search and destroy, prevention and control of mosquito habitat, conduct regular (weekly) search and destroy operation, monthly larva survey with result and most importantly, to educate the Barangay Health Workers (BHW) and Barangay officials in conducting regular larval survey in the respective areas.
Dr. Rosa Alegra, head of the Municipal Health Office (MHO) explained the local government is currently conducting regular meeting with barangay officials on the conduct of search and destroy activity through larva survey including community assembly and health education, clean-up drive and the latest is the blood samples.
