MANILA - The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) treated recently families and loved ones of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) with a free screening of the movie ‘Sunday Beauty Queen’ at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay.

OWWA Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac said the free movie screening is a treat and a must see film for the families and loved ones of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

“Magandang karanasan na magkasama-sama tayong lahat dito upang panoorin ang napakaganda at napakahalagang pelikula na ito,”said Cacdac.

‘Sunday Beauty Queen’, is a documentary film by Baby Ruth Villarama, which follows the real life stories of a group of Filipino domestic helpers in Hong Kong finding fulfilment in beauty pageants.

The documentary film, which took four years to make, shows how these Filipino domestic helpers spend their day off in a week – Sunday – during which they transform into beauty queens, entertain fellow Filipinos, and raise funds for distressed OFWs.

The film aside from being the first documentary to be included in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) in 2016, has also won the Best Picture award, thus making it the first documentary to receive the recognition in the history of the film fest.

Gracing the free movie screening were DOLE Undersecretary Ciriaco A. Lagunzad III, OWWA Deputy Administrator Josefino I. Torres, National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO) Director Chona M. Mantilla, and International Labor Affairs Bureau (ILAB) Director Jesus A. Cruz, Jr.

The groups who were treated with a free movie were OFW Family Circles from National Capital Region (NCR), Tarlac, Pampanga and Nueva Ecija; the Blas F. Ople Policy Center, and trainees from Language and Culture Seminar. (DOLE)
