DTI – Laguna serves writ of execution to 4 violating firms

VICTORIA, Laguna - Pursuant to the Republic Act No. 7394 (RA 7394) otherwise known as the Consumer Act of the Philippines, the Department of Trade and Industry is a national agency that protects the interest of the consumers and implements measures to achieve protection against unscrupulous or deceitful business establishments.

Thus, the department regularly conducts monitoring, enforcement and market surveillance activities and urges consumers not to compromise the safety and welfare of their family by patronizing products that are cheaper, but of low quality and substandard and by availing of services from business establishments with unethical, unfair and incompetent practice of service and repair.

In line with this, DTI – Laguna Provincial Office served the Writ of Execution to four business establishments engaged in the repair and service of Automotive, Electrical and Electronic Devices, Engineering Works and Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Units that did not comply with the decision rendered by DTI Adjudication Officer.

Section One of the PD 1572 clearly states that all enterprises and technical personnel employed therein engaged in the service and repair of motor vehicles, heavy equipment, engines and engineering works; electronics, electrical, air-conditioning and refrigeration; office equipment; medical and dental equipment; and other consumer industrial electro-mechanical, chemical and gaseous equipment, machinery appliances or devices, shall apply for accreditation with the Department of Trade within ninety (90) days from the promulgation of this Decree and shall apply for renewal on or before the 31st day of January of every year thereafter.

Nine firms were found to be violating the PD 1572 for operating the shop/center without securing an Accreditation Certificate from DTI – Laguna. However, one establishment closed its operation after the violation was found and another firm received the decision a week before.

DTI – Laguna is eager to protect the welfare and interest of the consumers in the province. Thus, the agency intensifying the business regulations especially the monitoring and enforcement activities as well as the information dissemination through tri-media releases and consumer education and advocacy seminars.
