TRECE MARTIRES CITY, Cavite (PIA) --The municipality of General Trias is home to the General Trias dairy fresh products popularly known today as Gentri’s Best.

Gentri’s Best produces seven dairy products and now processes 21 dairy products and flavor-variants (e.g., fresh milk, flavored-milk, white cheese, pastillas de leche, yoghurt, milk-o-gel, ice candy and yema) on a regular basis.

At the heart of Gentri’s Best is the General Trias Dairy Raisers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GTDRMPC), formed and registered in August 10, 2005 mainly to promote dairying and dairy enterprise to improve the quality of lives of the Carabao raisers.

From 44 members, the cooperative has increased its membership to 176 in 2012 and 70 of which sell their buffalo milk to the cooperative.

In a span of three years from 2006 to 2009, earnings of the cooperative showed significant growth with financial report ending 31 December 2012 declaring assets of P3.6M or about 70% higher than its 2008 asset of P1, 141,553.46.

To sustain these challenges in production, sales and marketing, the cooperative regularly attends capacity building activities facilitated by its partner agencies (PCC at UPLB, MAO-LGU, DTI-Cavite, among others) on animal management, carabao-upgrading, dairy processing, milk handling and quality control, packaging and marketing, recording and record management, and entrepreneurship. It aims to continually build the capability of the members and officers to manage and sustain the operation of the cooperative effectively.

The processing center of the GTDRMPC is a multi-million collaborative project with the local government of General Trias, the Korea International Cooperating Agency and the Philippine Carabao Center of the Department of Agriculture.

The center is furnished with state-of-the-art medium scale equipment capable of processing 500 liters of raw milk per batch to accommodate its increasing milk production and collection. Currently, the cooperative is collecting an average of 250 liters of milk per day, which represents about 60% of the total milk production in the municipality.

Since its initial operations, GTDRMPC has garnered numerous awards from 2005 besting the Best Exhibitor at the 1st Cavite Food & Product Festival by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. and most recently last 2012 winning the Outstanding Dairy Cooperative awarded by the Philippine Carabao Center, Department of Agriculture on March 20, 2013.

To date, the cooperative currently employs 10 personnel from the initial four (4) staff. These are three (3) processors, milk quality controller, cashier, bookkeeper, supervisor, and a driver/milk collector and utility.

Sales are achieved through different marketing approaches, such as direct selling in its sales room in the processing center and the other through distribution in Mr. Moo’s Dairy Store.

Other services offered by the GTDRMPC are extension of loans to dairy farmers with a small amount of interest, technical services, equipment and various trainings to enhance the farmers’ knowledge to the modern and scientific ways of dairy farming.

This is why when you buy at Mr. Moo’s Dairy Store, you know you are buying one of the best of Cavite.(Ruel B. Francisco-PIA IV-A)
