PADRE BURGOS, Quezon – A fishing boat utilizing an illegal fishing gear identified as “manu-manong buli buli” was recently apprehended by the BFAR 4A Quick Response Team (QRT).
The boat with its three offenders escaped at full speed towards Isla Puting Buhangin Resort in Pagbilao, Quezon and immediately abandoned the boat upon reaching the shore this March 28. The QRT towed the fishing boat and its fishing paraphernalia and are now in Padre Burgos for safekeeping and custory. The use of “manu-manong buli-buli” or Modified Danish Seine, a destructive fishing gear is banned under Section 97 of Republic Act 10654 or the Act to Deter, Prevent and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUUF).
The use of Danish Seine is also prohibited under Fisheries Administrative Order (FAO) 246 or Banning the Operation of Danish Seine and Modified Danish Seine in Philippine Waters. (DVL, PIA4A with reports from BFAR4A)
