Philippine Navy frigate BRP Andres Bonifacio is visiting Port Klang in Selangor, Malaysia for a port call and goodwill mission to underscore the heightened cooperation between the Philippine and Malaysian navies.

The Philippine frigate will dock at Port Klang after its participation in the recently-concluded Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) Exhibition 2017 last March 21 to 25.

Port Klang is the nearest international port to Kuala Lumpur. The frigate is led by Navy Captain Brendo Casaclang and has a compliment of 208 officers, sailors and Marines.

It is currently in Lumut, Perak for joint exercises with the Malaysian Navy, and will dock in Port Klang, Selangor on March 30, where a reception will be hosted by the Philippine Embassy on March 31.

“It is with pride that we welcome the BRP Andres Bonifacio in its first international voyage as a Navy ship. Her visit to Malaysian shores will further strengthen the bond between our two navies, and will highlight our commitment to address common maritime concerns,” Ambassador J. Eduardo Malaya said.

Expected to attend the reception are members of the diplomatic corps, Malaysian Government officials, leading businessmen and members of the Filipino community. The reception will feature performances by the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) Combo and Malaysia-based Filipino performer Gina Panizales.

During its participation at the LIMA 2017, the frigate participated in maritime exercises and hosted a deck reception for other participating military officers, exhibition participants, government officials and Langkawi-based members of the Filipino community.

The BRP Andres Bonifacio is the third Gregorio del Pilar-class frigate to be commissioned. She is named after Andrés Bonifacio, a Filipino revolutionary leader who is regarded as the “Father of the Philippine Revolution” and one of the most influential national heroes of the Philippines. She left Manila for her Malaysian voyage on March 14 and is expected to return to home shores on April 6.
