LUCENA CITY, Quezon - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office –Quezon in partnership with resorts owners and barangay council members of Barangay Talao-Talao conducted “Pulot Basura” or coastal clean-up at Barangay Talao-Talao, this city on May 19.
Julieta G. Abuejela said the coastal clean-up is in line with the celebration of month of the ocean and this is pursuant to Presidential proclamation No. 57 series of 1999 and the theme of this year’s celebration is “Tayo at ang Kapaligiran”.
Abuejela also said that around 19 sacks of garbage were collected by the attendees during the coastal clean-up in the said area.
The DENR-PENRO through the staff of technical management division also distributed IEC materials and conducted lectures on waste management, Wildlife Act or R.A 9147 and information about foreshore areas to the barangay council members and resorts owners of Barangay Talao-Talao.
Prior to coastal clean up activity in Lucena City, the DENR-PENRO through their technical staff also conducted information education campaign drive on ‘ rainforest of the sea’ at Barangay Kinagunan Ibaba, Agdangan, Quezon on May 17.
The activity was attended by barangay council members, barangay health workers, barangay tanod and private persons of barangay Kinagunan Ibaba, Agdangan, Quezon.
During the lecture, majority of the attendees reported that they actively participated in planting of mangrove species in their respective mangrove areas without receiving any fee from the government. (GG/Ruel Orinday/PIA)
