LUCENA CITY, Quezon - Philippine Information Agency Region 4A Director Ma. Cristina Arzadon along with Lucena City Pacific mall manager Catalina Jabrica led the formal opening and ribbon cutting of the ASEAN Information Kiosk at the 3rd floor of Pacific Mall, this city on May 31.
The kiosks which will operate until December 2017 carry reading materials on the benefits on the ASEAN integration, the Philippine Chairmanship of the ASEAN 2017 and other information on government programs/activities where shoppers/mall clients may get a free copy of information materials from the info kiosk.
During the Kapihan sa PIA held at the Pacific Mall following the info kiosk opening, Dir. Arzadon said that three other kiosks shall be installed by PIA4A in the region to increase the level of awareness of the general public on ASEAN benefits. PIA has already installed 8 ASEAN info kiosks in the region including the info kiosk installed in SM City Lucena City and Pacific Mall.
Arzadon also mentioned Presidential Communications Secretary Andanar’s vision to re-introduce the ASEAN integration to the Filipinos through different public engagements from online, print, on-air and on the ground communication.
“ 630 million people are ASEAN citizens and ASEAN citizens especially the professionals such as doctors, nurses and engineers may also work in nine other ASEAN member countries under the mutual recognition arrangement”, Director Arzadon pointed out during the kapihan.
Other benefits of the ASEAN integration were also tackled by Pablito Budoy of the Department of Trade and Industry; Caroline Zovella from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Ronald Amora from DSWD-4A.
The ASEAN or Association of Southeast Asian Nations was organized on August 8, 1967 and will be celebrating its 50th founding anniversary this year, 2017 and the Philippines will led the chairmanship of the anniversary celebration.
Aside from the Philippines, other ASEAN member countries include Brunei Darrussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mayanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. (GG/Ruel Orinday, PIA-Quezon)
