The chance to play one of Pinoy culture’s most iconic Darna is extraordinary for any actress.
Rosa del Rosario was the first actress to play the icon onscreen Darna in live action, the komiks powerful woman made by Mars Ravelo. Actress Angel Locsin no longer can play the Filipina superhero Darna in Star Cinema’s movie adaptation of the Mars Ravelo-created character. Now Liza Soberano selected for the role.
There’s been a war on social media regarding the casting of Liza Soberano as Darna. Various sentiments online have been put through against the new Darna because she has big shoes to fill, in favor of how she will give justice to the role and of her physical suitability for the part. I am not a fan of Liza Soberano but for me the fact that she was chosen to play the title role Darna maybe she seems to be the best and likeliest choice as the others don’t even come close to her in terms of her beauty and appeal. I will give her the benefit of the doubt until that moment, besides, this article isn’t all about her in particular, not even her being cast as Darna.
Many actresses played Darna so why is it still a big deal nowadays?
According to Wikipedia Darna’s powers include flight, super strength, super speed and nigh-invulnerability. In the 2003 retcon, the latest releases of the comic, this is due to her psionic background. Thus a form of telekinesis enhances her speed and strength and allows her flight. Her skin has a high level of invulnerability because of her race. Her psionic abilities also allow her to exercise limited psionic influence or telepathy. For weapons, the ruby encrusted in the winged medallion on her helmet also augments her psionic abilities, allowing her to emit a powerful concussion blast and the medallions that make up her belt can be used like throwing stars (shuriken). In the 2005 TV series, she also has heat vision, lent by the ruby. In some of the movies, she uses her bracelets to deflect bullets.[4]
Narda transforms into Darna, and vice versa, by shouting out their respective names (Darna to become Darna, Narda to become Narda). First, however, Narda has to swallow the white stone, which conveniently comes out of her mouth every time Darna changes back into herself. However, it was not so in her comic incarnations (see below). Without the stone in her mouth, she can say the name of whichever form she is not using without automatically changing.
Darna is a feminine archetype of force, strength, and power. Not wanting to be girls, they don’t want to be tender, submissive, peace-loving as good women are. Women’s strong qualities have become despised because of their weakness. Darna is obvious remedy is to create a feminine character with all the strength of a Superman plus all the innocence of a good and beautiful woman. The actress to fit the character. People doesn’t see sex object in Darna. Only a warrior in arms. While the men were being good men. They adore her as the lovely battle area she can be. Be that as it may, likewise as the exquisitely solid soul.
