Lucena City - Tanggol Kalikasan’s first-ever produced animation about biodiversity conservation entitled “Popoy and Friends: Mata ng Karagatan” was launched today July 27, 2017 at Dalahican Elementary School in Lucena City. The animation was viewed by more than three hundred students and teachers from different schools in Lucena including Dalahican Elementary School, Barra Elementary School, Lucena Dalahican National High School – Barra Annex, Dalahican Elementary School Annex, Dalahican National High School and Talao-Talao Elementary School. Said schools were along the coastline of Lucena City. It was also witnessed by TK’s partner LGU from the City Government of Lucena and Sangguniang Barangay of Dalahican.
The story is about Popoy Pawikan, a friendly and kind-hearted marine turtle who lives in the sea with friends Gigi Galunggong (fish) and Ana Alimasag (crab). One day, while they were out swimming, a dynamite blew their home, killing every fish, corals and other marine life in sight. Popoy knew they were not safe there anymore. In the task of seeking new habitat, Popoy and his friends set out on an adventure to find the island he saw in his dream while learning more about the ocean and how to protect its biodiversity.
Some Information-Education and Communication (IEC) materials including the DVD copies of the animation was distributed to the Sangguniang Barangay of Dalahican, City Government of Lucena, YES-O Coordinators and school’s principals and representatives. Other IEC materials distributed to students were fan, bookmark, stickers and pins with the message “I support Biodiversity Conservation” and #TKforBiodiversityConservation.
Students and teachers were also encouraged to have a selfie with the call outs and official frame of the project. Call outs such as; I will conserve water; Water has Life, Water is life; Save the Endangered Species and I will Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
