The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) CALABARZON honors this year’s winners of the Regional Gawad KALASAG (KAlamidad at Sakuna LAbanan SAriling Galing ang Kaligtasan) search through an awarding ceremony this August 24, 2017 at the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP), Tagaytay City.

The ‘Gawad KALASAG’ is an award is given to individuals, national government agencies, non-government organizations and the private sector in recognition of their initiative in helping the Filipino government uplift the standard of disaster management in the country.

Led by the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC), Gawad KALASAG gives recognition to individuals, groups or institutions which have shown extraordinary courage, heroism and sacrifice during both natural or human-induced disasters and emergencies to exemplify the best practices of DRRM and humanitarian response and activities.

In this year’s search, RDRRMC CALABARZON’s Regional Selection Committee evaluated a total of 47 entries for different categories and yielded a total of 17 regional front-runners.

For the best Provincial DRRM Council (PDRRMC): Batangas Province won 1st place with Quezon Province in 2nd and Laguna Province in 3rd.

The best City DRRM Council (CDRRMC) goes to 1st Batangas City in 1st place, the City of Bacoor in 2nd place and the City of Dasmariñas in 3rd place.

For best Municipal DRRM Council (MDRRMC) (1st-3rd Class): 1st place is Carmona Cavite, followed by Tanay, Rizal in 2nd place and Pagsanjan, Laguna in 3rd place while for the best MDRRMC (4th-6th Class): 1st place goes to Ternate, Cavite.

For Schools (Public – Urban): 1st place goes to Calaca Central School (Calaca, Batangas), 2nd place to Langkaan II National Highschool (Dasmariñas City, Cavite) and 3rd place to Saint Francis National Highschool (Biñan, Laguna) while in Schools (Public – Rural): 1st is Niogan Elementary School (Pililia, Rizal), followed by Maabud National Highschool (San Nicolas, Batangas) in 2nd place and Tinga Labac Elementary School (Batangas City, Batangas) in 3rd place. For category of Government Emergency Response Management (Basic), Tagaytay City DRRM Office wins 1st place. The 1st placers for each category will serve as entries of RDRRMC IV-A to National Level of Gawad Kalasag 2017.

In addition, plaques of recognition will be given to organizations and offices which passed the Regional Selection committee’s desk evaluation and qualified for the field validation. The rest that submitted their entries are expected to receive Plaques of recognition for joining this year’s seach.

Results of Gawad KALASAG are based on the desk evaluation, field and actual validation of entries as a selection process conducted by the Regional Selection Committee. The RSC previously conducted desk evaluations followed by the field or actual validations which were simultaneously done by the RSC validating teams last March 26-31, 2017. (GG/ML, PIA4A)
