28th National Statistics Month Celebration of PSA Quezon

The conduct of the NSM is pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 647, declaring the month of October of every year as the National Statistics Month. It was signed on 20 September 1990 by then President Corazon C. Aquino. The NSM is observed nationwide where all regions and provinces conduct their respective activities which are geared at promoting, enhancing and instilling nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society, and to elicit the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standard of statistics in the country.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “Facts and Figures for the Future: Statistics for Evidence-based Decisions Towards Ambisyon Natin 2040”. The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) is the host of the nationwide celebration for the 2017 NSM celebration. AmBisyon Natin 2040 represents the collective long-term vision and aspirations of the Filipino people for themselves and for the country in the next 25 years. It describes the kind of life that people want to live, and how the country will be by 2040. It is the vision that guides the future and is the anchor of the country’s development plans.

In preparation for the October celebration, PSA-Quezon organized an Interagency Committee to discuss how the celebration of this annual event on statistics be carried out in the province. In a meeting held on 31 August 2017, Provincial Statistics Officer Airene A. Pucyutan presented some details about the celebration during the 2016 NSM and the proposed statistical activities to be done this October.

The interagency meeting was attended by representatives of various government agencies and organizations including the academe such as the following: Ms. Rose Del Moro and Ms. Ediosa D. Cadiz - DILG Lucena; Mr. Adrianne O. Plasuelo - DILG Quezon; Ms. Monina Talaga – PPDC-Quezon; Mr. Walter Galarosa – DepEd-Quezon; Mr. Rey Mark Queaño –DepEd Lucena City; Ms. Caroline Zabella – DFA Lucena; Ms. Marites R. Yupio – Maryhill College; Ms. April Joy Abdon – CEFI; Dr. Flormando Baldovino – MS. Enverga University; Engr. Felipe V. Elises and Ms. Georgia Rivadenera – AMA Computer College; Dr. Marissa C. Esperal; Dr. Mari Jane A. Lee; and Dr. Gondolina A. Radovan- SLSU Lucban; Mr, Lito Giron and Mr. Ruel Orinday – Philippine Information Agency , and Ms. Maritess Jusoy Balquiedra – Radyo Pilipinas.

To kick off the celebration, PSA Quezon will have the Cutting of Ribbon Ceremonies of the Interagency Statistical Exhibit on October 4, 2017 at the Activity Center of Pacific Mall in Lucena City. This will be followed by a brief opening ceremonies of the 28th NSM and an Appreciation Seminar on Statistical Indicators to be attended by various stakeholders of statistics including students from selected schools in Lucena City. The Interagency Statistical Exhibit will showcase the latest statistics on Quezon province and the Philippines produced and generated by the PSA and those produced by members of the NSM interagency committee.

Other statistical activities to be conducted by PSA Quezon in line with the NSM celebration include an “On the Spot Poster Making Contest” for Grade 10 Junior High School students in Lucena City and the “Slogan Writing Contest” to be participated by selected Grade 10 Junior High School students of Quezon National High School (QNHS). PSA Quezon is also set to disseminate their various statistical products and outputs such as the demographic profile of the 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015), Construction Statistics, Consumer Price Index, Vital Statistics, etc., though various fora and media interviews within the whole month of October.
