Four Mayor municipalities of Southern Luzon have been suppressed by supervisory and control powers in their police force because of the alleged involvement in illegal activities such as drugs and other grave offenses.
According to Catalino Cuy’ officer-in-charge of the Department of Interior and Local Government, Lucena City Mayor Roderick Alcala of Quezon province was deprived of police powers under the Napolcom Resolution 2017-611.
Also included in the list of mayors who were scrapped of police powers are the mayor of Bay and Los Baños of Laguna and Ibaan, Batangas.
In the Resolution from 2017 - 611 issued on December 11, Mayor Juan Toreja of Ibaan, Bruno Ramos of Bay, and Ceasar Perez of Los Baños likewise lost their supervisory and police control.
Under the law, Napolcom has the power to punish any local officer involved in illegal drugs and other offenses, including frequent and unauthorized absences.
Maya Alcala is allegedly involved in the operation of his uncle, Cerilo ‘Athel’ Alcala, who is a top drug lord in Quezon.
Meanwhile, Mario Guanzon, a lawyer and director of the DILG Public Affairs and Communications Service, said local officials involved in illegal drug trafficking appealed to have their names removed from Napolcom’s list.
