LUCENA CITY – A 19-year old legless and one-armed Grade 9 student made it as a champion swimmer in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) region and earned the support and admiration of the members of the Sangguniang Panglalawigan of Quezon.

Last Monday, Marco Tinamisan, a student of Talipan National High School (TNHS) in Pagbilao, Quezon, found himself seated at the raised podium of the SP session hall surrounded by SP members led by presiding officer and Vice Gov. Sam Nantes for a group photo.

In her privilege speech, Quezon 1st District SP Board Member Aileen Resplandor Buan took up the cudgel for the Quezon winning athletes, specifically mentioning Tinamisan for being a disabled champion swimmer despite the odds.

During the Southern Tagalog Calabarzon Athletic Association (STCAA) on Feb. 12 -15 in San Pablo city, Tinamisan bagged bronze medal in back stroke and earlier at Quezon Provincial Athletic Meet he won silver medal in free style, breast stroke and back stroke categories.

“Dahil sa ipinakita niyang kahusayan sa paglangoy, sa kabila ng kanyang kapansanan, ay nagsisilbi siyang inspirasyon sa ating mga kabataan sa ating lalawigan para magsikap sa arena ng sports o kahit sa ibang larangan,” Buan said in her impassioned speech for the young disabled athlete.

Tinamisan, who is from Bgy. Alupay, Pagbilao, Quezon, was seated at the gallery of the SP session hall, accompanied by Caridad Grimaldo, school principal, and several school teachers of TNHS.

He piggybacked with Arjen Porta, his close friend and classmate at TNHS, when he went to be photographed with the SP members inside the session hall.

Tinamisan has carted several medals in Games for Special People sports competition sponsored by Department of Education Division of Quezon way back in 2014.

He was included among competing athletes of Dep-Ed – Quezon in SPED – Orthopedically Handicapped at STCAA 2014 in Lucena city.

He has been a participant of Calabarzon Team in Swimming Team OH category. Now he is headed for the Phil. Sports Association for the Differently Abled (PHILSPADA) in Manila

Legless since birth, he has also only one right arm as he has only a stump at the armpit at the left side of his body.

Buan also cited the other young athletes, all STCAA winners, who she said gave honor to Quezon province and made every Quezonian proud.

They are: Joumar Quejano, SPED Class, 2nd and 3rd place in athletics; Bryan Quejano, 3rd place in swimming; Mark Lowie Puyo, 1st placer in relay; Ronell Quejano, 2nd place in relay; James Andrei Lagudao, bronze in relay; Emn Yhuan Bonnes, silver in medley relay; Nicholas Ivan Radovan, silver in medley relay and gold in freestyle relay; Wilfredo Paleracio Jr., gold in long jump and silver in Triple Jump; Judith Mariel Cadelina, gold in Futsal; Jules Ashley Veluz, silver in Individual Tennis and bronze in Team; and Neilrose Ricci Villa, silver in Individual and bronze in Team for table tennis competition.
