To raise the awareness and capacitate the staff of DOST CALABARZON on what to do in case of calamity, a fire and earthquake drill was conducted on March 22, 2018. The Bureau of Fire Protection Los Baños (BFP-LB) facilitated the drill and seminar.
The program started with a surprise earthquake drill wherein the officials of BFP-LB observed and gave assessments and comments about the way the staff evacuated from the building. The officials then did a demo on the proper use of fire extinguishers and let the staff try putting out fire.
To further educate the DOST-CALABARZON staff, the BFP-LB composed of Chief Inspector Robert J. Banaag, SFO1 Duannee F. Fadri, SFO1 Manuel Lyndon S. Estenor, and FO1 Eliseo R. Gayadan conducted a seminar on Fire Safety Management. It was then followed by an open forum where the staff took turns in asking questions about fire safety.
One of the most pressing issue of DOST-CALABARZON related to fire-safety is the presence of hazardous materials in the vicinity especially in the laboratory making the office more vulnerable to fire. To address this, the BFP-LB inspected the facilities and made sure the office is equipped with fire extinguishers and fire prevention facilities. (Myrrh Caithlin L. Gutierrez/ DOST-CALABARZON)
