President Duterte and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to meet on the sidelines of the Boao Forum for Asia on April 9 and 10.
This is an annual event attended by heads of state in Asia with business leaders and members of the academe.
President Rodrigo Duterte will be accompanied by some members of the Cabinet.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the event will benefit the anti-poverty campaign of the administration.
“The real challenge for Asia is to eliminate poverty. Zero poverty is the goal of the president,” said DFA Usec. Manuel Teehankee
The two-day working visit in China includes a bilateral meeting between President Duterte and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
It is possible that the West Philippine Sea issue may be tackled.
This aside from discussions on fighting terrorism and other important issues.
“The two leaders will also discuss ways to collaborate on jointly addressing pressing issues as well as common threats such as violent extremism and terrorism,” said Teehankee.
A number of agreements between the two countries are also expected to be signed but the DFA has yet to provide details.
Some of issues that are currently being considered include the possible joint oil and gas exploration in some portions of the West Philippine Sea.
