Father’s day is just around the corner. This is the day to celebrate and honour fathers and father like figures in our lives. Words can’t express what a father means. To the world, he may be just a man, but to the people he brings into it, he is often so much more.
A father may be a person who works long hours to provide a better life for his family, but still finds time to come to computer games and school events. He might teach his children decency, humility or how to drive a car. He might be a man smiling with pride at graduations or shedding a tear at weddings. No matter what, a father generally is someone who will always be there for the people he loves, any way he can.
The idea to celebrate Father day came from Sonora Dodd, who was raised by her father.
The first Father’s Day celebration was on June 17, 1910. American President Lyndon Johnson declared 3rd Sunday in June to be celebrated as Father’s Day. A holiday honouring Fathers did not become official until 1966. In US, it is holiday on this day whereas in India, it is not so. Father’s Day is celebrated annually since 1972.
Throughout the world, dads are considered to be the bread earners of most of the families. However, very few people truly understand the crucial role a father plays in the family. If mothers are the shade giving canopy that shelters the children from wind and rain, fathers can be considered as the support system of these trees that keep them from getting uprooted. Father’s Day is a very important day, when children get a chance to say how much they love their dads.
Fathers work very hard to bring up their children and they deserve all the love and respect that they can get on a special day. A father ensures that his children are protected and provides them with a safe environment to grow up. In fact, the father’s role in bringing up the children is no less when compared to that of the mother. Though every child loves and respects his or her father all through the year, having a special day marked for the purpose to showcase how much that man means to you can be a great idea. So, if you want to celebrate Father’s Day in grand style this year, plan some special activities and get gifts to surprise your dad.
The most humble way of saying thank you to your father is by giving him a gift. Instead of falling into the trap of gifting a typical -boring gift, keep some time aside to think about him, and what he likes. Remember, men too have desire for things that they may want dearly but they won’t justify buying it for themselves. If you could learn of this secret, you have already won half the battle in making him feel special.
The gift doesn’t have to be very expensive or too extravagant. The gift should be something that comes from the heart.
To begin with, you can give some cards to your dad with a lovely message to appreciate everything he has done for you. You can buy cards online or from gift shops, or create your own hand crafted cards for the occasion. Buying some gift baskets that come with his preferred cologne, cookies, chocolates, or materials related to his hobbies like fishing, golf, gardening, bird-watching, etc can also put a smile on his face.
Speaking of gifts to be given to your dad, gadgets and technology are the best gift choice and are equivalent to the choice of diamonds to a woman. Try gifting him something interesting. Making the gift exclusive is all the more heart warming. For example, if you wish to gift him a book, gift him a specially autographed book.
Customized gifting is also an interesting option. You could start by choosing your favourite family photo. Then decide how you would like to have it personalized. You could choose from a variety of options such as coffee mugs, mouse pads, t-shirts, even bed sheets. You can design a father’s day card by making use of your favorite photos and having some heartfelt text written on it like ‘’Love you dad’ or ‘Best dad in the world’.
If you want to tread a different path, try going for an early morning jog with your dad, take a walk down the memory lane and tell him how much he means to you. Bringing up a child is no easy feat. So, it is the perfect day to say, “I love you” to your beloved old man.
Another idea would be to bring your entire family to your parent’s home, and arrange a dinner party at their place to celebrate this day. You can also have a laid back time with your dad on this particular day and make the most of the time that you spend together. If you have children of your own, show them the importance of father-child bonding by hanging out together this Father’s Day.
Father’s Day is an occasion to honor fatherhood. A father is not just a bread winner but someone who is looked up to for guidance. He shoulders the responsibility of the entire family. His acts of love are often taken for granted. We don’t always seem to see the effort he puts in to run the house. We often fail to take notice, mostly because we see his acts of love more as an obligation.
Yet, a father is someone who sacrifices his time and energy selflessly so that you could live comfortably.
When you recall all the wonderful things your father has done for you over the years, it can be a challenging task to know where to start and how would you like to pay tribute to him. With Father’s Day on the way, it’s a perfect way to make him feel special.
