LUCENA CITY, Quezon - Some 200 municipal agriculturists, members of municipal/city Fisheries and Aquatic Resources and Management Councils and Sangguniang Bayan-Committee on Agriculture and Fishery gathered here in a two-day Integrated Fishery and Aquatic Resources Management Council (IFARMC) Summit 2018.
Held at Domoit, this city on June 21-22, the summit was sponsored by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR)-Region-4 in cooperation with the Tanggol Kalikasan (TK)-Southern Luzon and the provincial government of Quezon.
TK-Southern Luzon Area director Julieta Aparicio said the summit aims to share and update the status and best practices of city/municipal fisheries and aquatic resources and management council in Quezon aside from creating plans for development and strengthening of IFARMCs.
“The summit also aimed to elect the officers and intergrate IFARMCs of Tayabas Bay, Lamon Bay and Ragay Gulf (Quezon side),” Aparicio added.
The participants were from the provinces of Quezon, Marinduque, and Batangas.
During the summit, Glen Forbes of Tanggol Kalikasan-Southern Luzon discussed the innovation in fisheries monitoring and law enforcement while regional fisherfolk representative Felizardo C. Lim of BFAR explained the creation, roles and responsibilities of the FARMC members.
Also present during the summit were BFAR-4A regional director Wilfredo M. Cruz who delivered his inspiration message to the attendees and TK President Ramon Grimaldo and staff of the Provincial Agriculture Office. (Ruel Orinday/PIA-Quezon)
