LUCENA CITY - The provincial government of Quezon through the provincial council for the protection of children will be hosting the regional awarding of child friendly local governance on August 13, 2018 at the Quezon Convention Center here.
This was announced by provincial social welfare and development officer Sonia Leyson during the 2nd quarter meeting of the provincial council for the protection of children (PCPC) held in this city on June 14, 2018.
“The regional awarding is part of the annual “Niyogyugan festival” in the province of Quezon which is celebrated in line with the weeklong celebration of Quezon day (August 19) ”, Leyson said.
For Quezon province, all LGUs/municipalities excluding Polillo, Quezon will receive a plaque of recognition from the Council for the Welfare of Children according to Nancy Ilagan of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO). Quezon province has 39 municipalities and 2 cities.
The selection of child friendly local governance is based on child local government audit/assessment conducted by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The criteria for the selection of child friendly local governance are the following: Percentage reduction in deaths among under five years old children; Percentage reduction in stunting and wasting of children 0-72 months; Percentage increase in the number of 3-4 years old children attending center based day care services and completion rate for elementary schooling in 2017 in public and private school.
Other criteria include absence of child labor or percentage reduction in child labor cases; Percentage reduction in the number of children victim of violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation and trafficking in persons; Safety measures for children in the community and schools; Extent of mainstreaming of children’s rights to survival, development, protection and participation in the care development agenda of the LGU; Presence of ordinance establishing barangay violence against women and their children; 2017 PhilHealth accreditation in its main health facility or rural health unit and with local school board plan for CY 2017 that is aligned with the school improvement plan.
