TAYABAS CITY – The Rotary Club of Cosmopolitan-Lucena (RCCL) has launched a tree-planting project last Sunday (July 1) in Bgy. Ilayang Palale here.

Roberto Gajo, president of the socio-civic organization, said they have partnered with the provincial government of Quezon and barangay leaders for their ‘Adopt a Farm: Trees for the Future’ kick-off project by planting calamansi and lanzones seedlings in behalf of their stakeholders and target beneficiaries.

Gajo, also head of the provincial agriculturist office, said they are prioritizing small-hold farmers to benefit from the project’s environmental and economic impact.

“We are doing this project to insure sustainability, with the small farmers who will take care of the farm and to help them earn income,” said Gajo, who became a member of RCCL in 2012 and whose inspiring motto for his leadership is “Transcending the challenges of today, and inspiring brighter transformation for tomorrow”.

Gajo said their tree-planting project is designed for convergence by choosing a local association to take care of the trees and with the technical assistance and agricultural inputs such as seedlings and fertilizers provided by the provincial government’s agriculture office.

He identified the farmer cooperator for their project as Benedict Rubio.

The RCCL’s theme for this year is simply “Be the inspiration” and Gajo claims to be an ‘inspiring president’ of the club whose present membership is 38 with 2 honorary members.

He cited future plans of their group such as conducting medical and dental missions focused on maternal and child health, scholarship program, peace and order, livelihood, environmental and vocational services and advocacies.

RCCL is under Rotary International District 3820 headed by District Gov. Jose ‘Boy’ Garcia and its Chapter President and Club Administrator is Estrella Martinez.
