LUCENA CITY, Quezon - The provincial government of Quezon is all set for this year’s edition of “Niyogyugan Festival 2017” slated on 9-20 August at Perez Park, this city featuring agri-tourism exposition, recognition of outstanding farmers and fisherfolks and other activities.
Provincial agriculturist Roberto Gajo said the festival will formally open with an agri-tourism exposition at Perez Park on August 9 with Quezon governor David Suarez; Niyogyugan chairperson Hon. Aleta C. Suarez; Hon.Vice governor Samuel Nantes along with other local officials of Quezon province expected to grace the occasion.
The festival will showcase agricultural products harvested / produced by farmers from different municipalities in the province. Also in promotion of the coconut industry in general as different booths or nipa hut on display are made out of coconut trees. The different booths are expected to outdo each other for the best booth contests where the provincial government has prepared prizes for the winners.
Gajo said 39 municipalities/ cities will compete in the best competition where the winners will receive a prize of P3M - worth of projects (1st place); P2M (2nd place); P1M( (3rd place); P500,000 (4th place) and P300,000 (5th place). The best booth competition has two categories: The category A which is composed of 1st to 3rd class municipalities and category-B- 4th to 6th class municipalities/ cities. Non-winners will receive P100,000.
“The festival will showcase the agri-products of the municipalities of Quezon and the creativity and ingenuity of our artists in Quezon province, this also aims to promote tourism, agriculture, culture and tradition of the province” , Gajo added.
Other activities included “Araw ng Pamilyang Magsasaka”; awarding of certificate of recognition to outstanding farmers/ fisherfolks also known as “Gawad-Saka”; Farmers Congress and herbal landscape contest.
The awarding rites in different contests including best booth competition shall be held on August 20, 2018 at the Quezon Convention Center, this city. (Ruel M. Orinday-PIA-Quezon)
