LUCENA CITY--- The newly elected president of Association of Barangay Captains (ABC)- Quezon chapter said he will keep his post until the end of his third term, dismissing rumors that he will be running for the next year's vice- gubernatorial race.
In a press briefing on Monday, ABC president and ex- officio Provincial Board Member Ireneo Boongaling categorically said that he will be challenging Vice- Governor Samuel Nantes contrary to what has been reported.
"That's not true! I don't have plan to abandon the post which I won just recently", said Boongaling, a known businessman who is now in his second term as Barangay Captain of Masalukot1, Candelaria, Quezon.
Boongaling is a son of prominent businessman Leodegario Boongaling and nephew of Candelaria Mayor Macario Boongaling who once served as president of ABC- Quezon chapter.
He said its true that he was being offered by some political groups to run for the second highest position in the province but he humbly refused to buy it.
"I don't want to disappoint those who voted and supported me to become ABC president in the recent heavily contested polls as I have promised them to serve the league, alleviate its level and assure the welfare of all the barangay captains in the province", Boongaling said.
Boongaling had defeated ABC- San Antonio, Quezon chapter president Ariel Wagan who was publicly supported by Gov. David Suarez and his father, Minority Leader Danilo Suarez. Wagan is a former three termer mayor of San Antonio town and elder brother of incumbent Mayor Erick Wagan.
But after winning the polls, Boongaling said he immediately approached Wagan and asked him to unite their forces, and avoid faction within the league, since the election was already over.
With emphasis, Boongaling vowed to keep his promise to remain in his post even as he disclosed that his office is now facing several problems including the non- payment of their salary by the provincial government since their assumption to office on the first week of August.
But for the show to go on, Boongaling said he is using his personal resources to sustain all the operational expenses of his office while fixing the problems.
"We've been facing different domestic problems here since we assumed office. One is the fact that we have not yet been paid of our salaries since our assumption. Our service vehicle is unservisable and we don't have the budget for our office supplies and equipment. But I'm shouldering all the burden while we're doing everything to fix these problems", he said
Asked if Gov. Suarez has something to do with those problems, Boongaling did not make any comment!
