The forum, which was held on September 17, is a joint project of the Department of Energy (DOE) and Philippine Information Agency-Region-4A in cooperation with the municipal government of Tagkawayan, Quezon and QUEZELCO- 1 which aims to increase the level of awareness of the local residents of Tagkawayan on energy efficiency and conservation.
Resource speaker in the forum was Engr. JR Thadeus Arche, WESM Trader, QUEZELCO 1 who discussed energy efficiency and conservation tips to the attendees.
According to Engr. Arche, energy conservation is the effort made to reduce the consumption of energy by using less of an energy service. This can be achieved either by using energy more efficiently or by reducing the amount of service used.
He also explained that energy conservation also reduces the need for energy services and can result in increased environmental quality, national security, personal financial security and higher savings. It also lowers energy costs by preventing future resource depletion.
Arche also said the following are the simple ways of conservation: Replace incandescent bulb with a compact fluorescent lamp or LED bulb; use appropriate wattage for the lighting purpose; Plan the location of lighting fixtures; Turn off lights that are not needed; Clean the fluorescent lights regularly, accumulated dust and dirt can decrease the illumination of lights; and use natural lighting when feasible.
Part of the program was the open forum where the attendees asked questions about energy efficiency and conservation to the resource speaker.
PIA-Quezon Infocen Manager Joselito Giron thanked Engr. Arche and Tagkawayan Mayor Jose Jonas Frondozo for supporting the multi-sectoral forum. (Ruel Orinday, PIA-Quezon)
