Straight Talk
by Nimfa L. Estrellado

“I know you want to kill me, and I wish to do all I can to help you succeed. Well... that would be insane, but what about this? I know you want to kill my children, destroy my country, and erase all historical evidence of our existence, and I want to do everything I can to help you achieve your goals.”

Would that be the epitome of insanity? If the leaders of our country were doing these things would you cry out “Treason”? That is exactly what is happening today, and we are left stunned wondering what can be done to stop our leaders becoming insane who have wrestled complete control over the government, military, and economy of the Philippines.

Ok. So I am going too far you say. Another conspiracy nut.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte says at the height of the campaign for the Philippine presidency in 2016 he will ride a jet ski towards Spratlys and erect a Philippine flag if China doesn’t leave the island.” Then Duterte backs out of jet ski ride to Benham Rise and later on said ‘They (China) offered joint exploration. So that’s like co-ownership, it’s like two of us own that. That’s better than fighting.

Ok yes there is nothing wrong as Duterte vows to end China’s ‘vicious’ conflicts. Recently the Republic of the Philippines and the People’s Republic of China issued a joint statement following the two-day state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Manila. President Rodrigo Duterte have excessive pandering to Chinese interests. Chinese President Xi Jinping’s historic 2-day state visit made Philippine and Chinese governments signed a total of 29 deals were.

Wait a minute is Duterte selling out the Philippines to China? isn’t he supposed to be an Anti-China? Isn’t he should be defending Scarborough without war? China has promised to protect Philippines? Should it be President Duterte protecting the Philippines from China? China has border disputes with almost every neighbouring country. China has imperialist ambitions. Imperialism a policy of extending a country’s power and influence through diplomacy or military force. The dark legacy of china’s drive for global resources is insane. More recently, they have accused China of using the “One Belt, One Road” (now known as Belt and Road Initiative) to develop a kind of new colonial relationship so that many developing countries have to depend on China. Deducting from those western scholars, in general, their logic is to locate the definite answer before looking for the evidence based on sample studies. Therefore, this kind of sample study not only distorts the original concept and principles of dependency theory, but also maliciously attacks the trade and commerce between China and developing countries. To some extent, it misleads media and public opinion resulting in adverse influence on the relationship between China and other developing countries. Think I am stretching a bit? It gets better.

China is now helping Philippines accomplish much-needed development, like what it did to Africa. But has this relationship been as good for Africa as it has been for China? Some says no. There’s news China is exploiting the African continent and ignore recruiting Africans and only prefer to Chienese in all projects in Africa which is run by China, so china failed in their promise for given more number of africans job vacancies. China does not do any charity. Whatever it invests in any place, it wants returns. Lets hope it will do more good than bad for the Philippines.
