LUCENA CITY - A trike driver died while his wife was wounded after they were waylaid by two armed men riding in tandem on a motorcycle at Bgy. Ibabang Dupay, here, yesterday.
City police director, Supt. Reydante Ariza said prior to the shooting, couple Edgar Cobey, 39 and Wendy Cobey, 43, residents of University Village, at said barangay were aboard a tricycle on their way to SM City- Lucena.
Probers said Edgar was driving the trike while Wendy was sitting at the side car.
They said the supects who were tailing behind shot the couple at close range at 9:15 a.m. as the trike stopped on red traffic light.
Despite the susptained bullet wounds, they said Wendy luckily survived but Edgar who was fatally wounded died on the spot.
After making sure that Edgar who fell on the ground after being hit was already dead, they said the suspects sped away. Wendy was rushed to MMG Hospital at said village.
Responding probers recovered eight spent shells for cal. 9mm pistol at the crime scene. It was learned that Edgar has been subject of a complaint in the village for his alleged involvement in illegal drugs.
