LUCENA CITY, Quezon - The provincial government of Quezon has awarded plaque of appreciation and cash to local government units with outstanding gender and development focal point system through a ceremony at Quezon Convention Center here.
The recent activity was part of the provincial women’s month celebration which was attended by more than 8,000 women mostly members of Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (KALIPI) from 40 towns of Quezon province.
Representative Anna Villaraza Suarez and Provincial Gender and Development Office (PGAD) head Ofelia Palayan led the awarding of plaques and cash prizes to outstanding city/municipal gender and development focal point system (MGADFPS) composed of the following:
MGADFPS-Mauban, Quezon (1st class municipality); MGADFPS- Polillo, Quezon- 3rdclass municipality; MGADFPS- Unisan, Quezon- 4thclass municipality and MGADFPS- Agdangan- 5th class municipality. The awardees received a plaque and a cash prize of P40,000.00.
MGADFPS-Pagbilao, Quezon (1st class municipality) and MGADFPS- Buenavista (4th class municipality) were also awarded as first runner-up and they received a plaque and cash prize of P35,000.00.
The second runner up was MGADFPS-Real while the third runner up was MGADFPS- Tagkawayan, Quezon which received a plaque and a cash prize of P20,000.00 and P15,000.00 respectively.
Meanwhile, MGADFPS – Unisan received a special award as best GAD initiative on child development MGADFPS-Mauban as best GAD implementer on barangay seal of local governance.
Awarding of outstanding municipal/city gender and development is one of the programs of the provincial government of Quezon and implemented annually through the provincial gender and development office.
Palayan said the program aims to promote gender equality and women empowerment.
“We also implement capacity building in the different municipalities/cities of Quezon province to increase awareness on gender and development."
She added that the provincial government has organized a provincial committee against violence against women , children and cyber pornography as well as Men Opposed to Violence Against Women and Children Everywhere (MOVE)-Quezon to promote gender equality and women empowerment in the province of Quezon.
