SAN ANDRES, QUEZON--- Police officers on Saturday shot dead two men, including a suspect in the killing of a mayoralty candidate’s leader, during a shootout in Bgy. Tala, here.
Quezon police director Senior Supt. Ramil Montilla said Jebby Oro Sr. and one alias Lando, both residents here, sustained bullet wounds in the clash and died while being taken to the hospital.
Quoting town police commander Senior Insp. Joseph Ian Java, Montilla said Oro was a political supporter of suspended San Andres Mayor Sergio Emprese.
Montilla added that Oro was a suspect in the killing of Edigardo Paradero, a campaign leader of mayoralty candidate Giovanni Lim, son of Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) president Alfredo Lim.
He said Paradero was stabbed dead inside his house in Bgy. Talisay last May 1.
Police considered the killing as election-related.
While conducting a follow up operation around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Java said his men spotted the suspects on a motorcycle in Bgy. Tala.
“But when my men tried to flag down the motorcycle, the suspects quickly stopped, alighted from the bike and opened fire using a cal. 9mm pistol and an improvised shotgun at the policemen,” said Java.
Java said this prompted his men to retaliate and hitting the two suspects.
He said the suspects were rushed to San Andres Rural Health Center but both died upon arrival.
Oro was previously charged with murder but the case was later dismissed by the Lucena City Regional Trial Court for non-appearance of the complainant during court hearings.
