A big syndicate employing well-equipped professional goons could be behind the abduction of the former trusted man of slain Tanauan City, Batangas Mayor Antonio Halili, a top police official said as he denied that the kidnapping was carried out by lawmen.
General Oscar Albayalde, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said that they are not discounting the possibility that Allan Fajardo might have crossed paths with a big criminal syndicate either at the course of his being the head of anti-crime force of Mayor Halili or in his business dealings.
Rumors and speculations of police involvement in the abduction of Fajardo and his driver early this month in Laguna cropped up after a video footage of the kidnapping surfaced, showing a “law enforcers-like” movement.
“I think they are professionals because they are good and well-equipped. What we are sure here is that it could be a big syndicate (behind),” said Albayalde.
He explained that with the colorful background of Fajardo, it is not surprising that he might have made enemies from rival syndicates.
Fajardo is being linked to illegal drugs activity, an allegation being denied by his family. Fajardo is also reportedly engaged in metal scrap business in Batangas.
“With his alleged involvement (in drugs), it is not remote that he made enemies from other syndicates,” said Albayalde.
“But it could also be due to business rivalry. We are open to any investigation and on our part, we are investigating this,” he added.
Albayalde however, said that it is wrong to assume that our cops and soldiers could be behind the adduction just because of the movement and the equipment by the abductors as shown in the video footage.
“Anybody can buy anywhere. The vest for instance is not exclusive to the police and the military,” said Albayalde
