IMUS CITY, Cavite – This year's celebration of the Philippine Flag Day marks 121 years after the flag was first raised and waved in Imus City.
The event is held yearly at the Dambana ng Pambansang Watawat/Heritage Park, Miguel Santo in Barangay Alapan II-B here in the city.
National government agency officials from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, the Department of Education, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine National Police, the Department of Interior and Local Government, the Department of Public Works and Highways and Imus City Mayor Hon. Emmanuel L. Maliksi with Vice Mayor Arnel M. Cantimbuhan graced the event with their presence and support.

The national hymn was sung by Ms. Bayang Barrios followed by a march of colors by cadets of the Philippine Navy.

Celebrity guest to the event was stage and movie actor John Arcilla who recited the Oath to the Philippine Flag followed by the wreath-laying offered by Ruel T. Maranan, President, Ayala Foundation, Inc. and Dr. Rene R. Escalante, head of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines.

A welcome message was given by Mayor Maliksi, expressing his appreciation to the people behind this annual celebration, for continuously remembering this historical event to keep patriotism alive in the hearts and minds of the Filipino youth.

Special Assistant to the Governor Mr. Ruperto Sangalang, representing Cavite Governor Jesus Crispin "Boying" Remulla, read the governor’s speech recalling the historical events leading to the uprising in the Battle of Alapan, the first and greatest battle that fueled the succeeding uprisings against the Spanish conquerors that led to the independence of our people, and the governor's appeal to the current generation.

“Tayo na po sa patuloy na pagkilos patungo sa isang tunay na paglaya, paglaya sa pangaapi at panggigipit ng ilang makapangyarihang bansa, paglaya sa kamangmangan, paglaya sa gutom at kahirapan ng mga Pilipino."
(Let us continue to move toward a true liberation, liberation from oppression and harassment of some powerful nations, liberation from ignorance, liberation from hunger and poverty of the Filipinos)
(Ruel Francisco, PIA-Cavite)
