CAVITE CITY - All roads will lead to Padre Burgos Street here on Monday, as this historic city is set to stage its age-old tradition of the 'Regada Water Festival 2019' where every city folk gets doused with water, in celebration of the Feast Day of Saint John the Baptist.

City government tourism festival organizers said the annual parade highlights the “Paulan sa Kalye” (drenching on the street) with their shouts of “Wet Wet Hooray,” Basayawan sa Kalye (wet fun dancing), along the stretch of the main staging area at P. Burgos Street.

Tourism Office said the drenching revelry will be spiced up with the upbeat music of the various bands, including “Siakol Band, Agos, Luvictus, Molay, Kerplunk, Pignose, Hey Moonshine and the traditional Caracol ni San Juan Bautista, a traditional dance in homage to St. John.

Festival host Mayor Bernardo Paredes has enjoined every constituent, visitor, and tourist to join the fun.

Paredes said Cavite Governor-elect Juan Victor “JonVic” Remulla will participate in the event.

The local government will be installing huge water sprinklers along the stretch of Romualdo Street to R. Basa Street up to P. Burgos St.

As pre-festival features, the city will be hosting its “Tahong (Oyster) Festival” on June 20 at the Montano Hall, followed by the Regada Street Dance at 4 p.m. at P. Burgos Street.

A concert featuring Parokya ni Edgar band with the nightcap band jam at the Montano Hall Grounds is scheduled on June 22.

Meanwhile, Mayor Dino Reyes Chua of Noveleta town adjacent to this city has reminded constituents and the public to be ready on the observance of St. John’s Feast Day when dousing of water in public has been a tradition.

"Let’s be prepared in bringing a spare dress or work clothes or school uniform as part of the traditional 'Basaan (drenching),” he advised.

General Trias City Mayor Antonio Ferrer and Congressman Luis Ferrer IV will lead the 'Basaan sa Kalye' (drenching on the street) along the stretch of San Juan 1 and 2 up to Crossing Tanza/Tejero road. (PNA)
