DISASTER PREPAREDNESS. Students Tayabas West Central School III participate in the national earthquake drill on June 20, 2019 |
TAYABAS CITY - To boost disaster awareness and preparedness in the country, the 2nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) was conducted in Tayabas West Central School III at exactly 2 pm.
More than 600 students, teachers, barangay officials and parents performed the duck, cover and hold for a magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Tayabas City. Evacuation was conducted in the area and several drill scenarios namely, collapse structure and first aid treatment to injured students were performed.
The 2nd quarter NSED generally aims to test the efficiency and usefulness of the preparedness, response and recovery plans, systems and policies developed in various localities and offices. Specifically, it aims to showcase the interoperability of plans among concerned agencies including the LGUs, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and even the communities.
“Through this activity we can see the best practices and the even the gaps to further improve our preparedness measures for a strong earthquake. Also, this exercise could encourage the entire community to further strengthen disaster preparedness initiatives and continuous effort to build a culture of disaster resilience,” said Lester Gob, School Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) Coordinator.
The quarterly NSED aims to evaluate the effectiveness of contingency plans and protocols in relation to earthquake scenarios and other similar events.
