BACOOR CITY, Cavite, – The City Government here through the City Social Welfare and Development Office and other concerned agencies led in last week's disaster relief efforts for the fire-affected families of Sitio Silangan, Brgy. Talaba.
The recent fire which ravaged hundreds of houses on July 5, left about 290 families homeless while around 162 families still remain in the barangay covered court here as of July 9.
Bacoor City Mayor Lani Revilla personally led the distribution of relief goods on Sunday, July 7, together with Vice Mayor Karen Sarino and several city councilors, with goods such as basic household cooking utensils, canned foods, noodles and rice to help the family get by.
Meanwhile, Senator Bong Go also visited the evacuation center to give relief goods consisting of clothes, food packs, and financial aid as he promised to help buy uniforms and school supplies for the school children affected by the fire.
Go consoled the affected residents with an assurance of help not only financial support but the possibility of livelihood through the cooperation of concerned government agencies in the region such as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), PAGCOR, TESDA and also of medical services through the Department of Health.
He revealed that he had already discussed with Mayor Lani Revilla his intention to solve the problem on the housing resettlement of the affected families through two options: first is arranging with the private owner of the property in Barangay Talaba 7 for its development and have the houses rented to them; and the second is the relocation of the families in the “Murang Pabahay” in the town of Naic.
