CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, July 3 (PIA) – Calamba City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) and City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) members sat down for updates on peace, order and drug situations in the city last June 21.
Calamba City Police Station (CPS) Chief-of-Police PSupt. Jacinto R. Malinao said they are looking for possible ways to encourage drug personalities and surrenderers to undergo rehabilitation.
“We need to strengthen our demand reduction, education, kung ano iyong pamamaraan kung paano natin maeengganyo iyong mga surrenderers to attend our reformation activities natin na SIPAG o Simula ng Pag-asa.”
(We need to strengthen our demand reduction, education and find a way to urge surrenderers to attend to our reformation activities such as SIPAG or Simula ng Pag-asa."
The Chief-of-Police has started visiting the villages in the city to reorient and remind Barangay Heads on the role of Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) as strong partners of the PNP in this undertaking.
Current situation
“We have 54 barangays and all of them are affected, walo lang po iyong slightly affected, moderately 40, and seriously affected wala naman masyado,” he reported.
(We have 54 barangays and all of them are affected, 8 are slightly affected, 40 are moderately affected and not so much are seriously affected)
The classification when seriously affected is having the presence of a plant lab, drug den, and clandestine laboratories, he explained.
As of now, the city only has 6 drug-cleared barangays.
“In consonance doon sa battle cry ng Administration na drug-free Philippines, ang DILG ngayon ay pinupukpok na ang LGU hanggang sa barangay para i-clear iyong barangay nila of the drug problem.”
(In consonance with the administration's drug-free Philippines, DILG pushes LGUs up to the barangay level to clear their areas from the drug problem.)
He stressed that the Department of the Interior and Local Local Government (DILG) strongly compels the local government units (LGUs) down to the barangays to undergo drug-clearing process.
As the Chief-of-Police recounted, when he assumed his position last February 1, they started with a baseline of 3, 151 watchlisted drug personalities.
“I went around at nag-launch ako ng barangay drug clearing and as of yesterday ang nadagdag ay 554 newly identified personalities,” he continued.
(I went around and launched barangay drug clearing and as of yesterday there are 554 newly identified personalities.)
These newly identified personalities, as he defined, are those who have been involved with drugs either as user or pusher for so long but did not surrender during the first wave of the drug campaign.
From April 1 to June 20, Brgy. Canlubang has the greatest number of surrenderers.
Meanwhile, Brgy. Parian has the highest number of arrested drug personalities during operations and was considered the most affected barangay.
PNP Calamba is assessing the level of cooperation among Barangay Officials per Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB)-DILG Resolution where the Sangguniang Barangay should be the forefront in barangay drug clearing.
Malinao said their initiatives shall continue as there are still more drug personalities to be monitored. (Joy Gabrido/PIA4A)
