TAYABAS CITY - The City Government of Tayabas celebrated their 12th Cityhood Anniversary led by Mayor Ernida Reynoso and city council, held at Silungang Bayan, on Sunday, July 14.
The anniversary program culminated with recognition of key personalities instrumental to Tayabas’ cityhood followed by the State of the City Address of the lady mayor.
City Mayor Ernida Reynoso, in her State of the City Address, in line with the anniversary celebration, summed up the achievements of her administration in the past three years.
The lady mayor proudly said that she finished her first term with a lot of accomplishments as she bannered the various awards and recognition received by the city.
She encouraged everyone to support her programs and agenda for a more progressive and more developed Tayabas and assured the Tayabenses that the city will be positioned to a better future under her term.
To recall, Tayabas became a city through a plebiscite in 2007, but the cityhood was hotly contested by the League of Cities of the Philippines in a legal battle. The matter reached the Supreme Court where Tayabas and other 15 cities faced controversial court cases about its constitutionality. Voting 7-6, the SC reversed the decision against the new cities. It said the conversion of the 16 municipalities into cities met all legal requirements.
