In 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered on Monday afternoon, July 22, President Rodrigo Duterte said, “if you think that you can run the country better than the elected, then go ahead; that’s the problem of Filipino people.”

Your president who is responsible for this country is telling you that if you think that you can run the country better than the elected, then go ahead. Duterte also said he’s grossly disappointed with corruption while there are plunderers right in front of him.

Because of this statement, I have realized that we are a deeply stupid nation, that’s the real problem my fellow Filipinos.

“The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.” - Bertrand Russell, “The Triumph of Stupidity,” 1933

True that! There are rather obvious examples, but it is hardly an exaggeration to insist that this astonishing combination of willful ignorance and stubborn stupidity can be found virtually everywhere Philippine politics are discussed.

So, yes, the Filipinos are in thrall to liars and lunatics serving as a smoke screen for a conservative class war against the poor and middle class. A nation is only as strong as the character of its people, and truth will sustain and determine the character of a people, bringing liberty and justice for all.

When you study our history and the rise and fall of our nation, you will find some interesting points about the breakdown of moral restraint and moral character. There is a similar pattern every time, regardless of the time period or location: when the people have internal self-government, the nation prospers; when they lose their moral restraint and internal character, the nation falls.

A government requires wisdom and virtue, or else “it is the greatest of all possible evils”. A government cannot experience true liberty without widely held wisdom and virtue founded in the immutable laws of the universe. The virtue will set a nation free, and wisdom will allow it to prosper.

All these ideas and principles are united to work together for one cause. Truth provides good character; good character enables self-government; self-government leads to personal and national liberty; liberty leads to prosperity, opportunity, justice, and a lasting government.

The preservation and sustainment of the government depends on you. It’s time to discover truth and wisdom or lose it. Maybe the idiot will cast there vote wisely next time and elect people who don’t put corruptions above other issues. We should be wise enough to stop electing or re-electing losers and thieves or strengthen institutions so that our system stops making thieves of those that lead us. I hope extremely experienced and wise about the way the government run also next time. We need more wise leaders, not self serving ignorant leaders.
