TAYABAS CITY - A National Conference on History, Migration and Environment in CALABARZON was organized by Alternatibong Tahanan ng mga Akdang Nasaliksik (ATAGAN) last August 16-18, 2019 at Nawawalang Paraiso Resort and Hotel, Tayabas, Quezon.

It aimed to determine the extent of research projects already conducted in or about the province of Quezon, Aurora, and Marinduque and to highlight research projects about the province and encourage everyone to get involved in research activities.

It was attended by 80 teachers, writers, activists, historians, and cultural workers. The three-day conference was composed of high-caliber speakers including the Palanca Winner Paterno “Pat” Baloloy, Multi-awarded writer, Joselito D. De Los Reyes, and Vim Nadera who represented the country in various Pista ng Sining all over the world. The conference provided a regular venue for discussion and disseminate information on topics that guide participants in the management of their community.

It also highlighted teaching demonstrations integrating the research works of the speakers. Annadel Gob, Ma. Belen Esteleydes, Arcedel Pagana, May Ester Rubio, Leila R. Mira, Eliza Carios, Racquel Capacio, Irene Taracina, Marjurie Cabrera, Jhovanne Ybañez, Jovelynda Dimayuga, Graziela Banagan, Ryann Rupole, Rodelo Alano, Helennor Vender, Maria Edissa Contreras, and Susan Abuel were the demonstration teachers.

Ma. Belen B. Esteleydes, a demonstration teacher from Tayabas West Central School said that she was amazed how brilliant the speakers were. She was inspired to conduct a research as part of professional development.

“As English was on the way, providing a topic related to the abstract on Maglulukad and Copra. I created a story out of the abstract to integrate the lesson presented to us by the speaker. This story was simple which the learner will understand easier. It was like simple comprehension of the lesson if they get the necessary information out of the story,” said Arcedel Pagana, Teacher III as he also shared his experience on demonstration teaching.

At the end of the presentation of the lesson, the master teachers critic the demonstration teacher based on the RPMS tool in observing the teacher. They follow the 9 steps in grading the teacher based on the performance being given by the teacher. It was fruitful for the demonstration teacher because the different strategies were shared by everyone. The vague ideas who present in the beginning unveil and turn into crystal clear information to help the teacher in delivering the lessons.

Ryan Palad, Conference Director thanked all the participants, speakers, schools, and teachers who gave their 100% participation. He challenged the Quezonian teachers to conduct research and submit abstract to ATAGAN and hoping that the next speaker would be a teacher-participant from the 9th Conference.

“Paano ba makatutulong ang conference na ito sa mga teachers? So, naisip namin na bukod sa certificate na matatanggap ninyo, ang Lesson Plan na ginamit sa demonstration ay iipunin at ipa-publish natin upang hindi lamang sa promotion magamit kundi higit lalo mapakinabangan ng mga guro sa Quezon. Maaari ding maging contributor ng lesson plan ang mga guro na hindi nakapag-pakitang turo,” he added which the participants applauded.

The conference was made possible with the cooperation of Department of Education (DepEd), Commission on Higher on Education (CHED), National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCCA), Office of Governor Danilo Suarez, Kapisanan ng mga Bahay Saliksikan sa Bansa (Study Centers Association of the Philippines), at ADHIKA ng Pilipinas, Inc. (Asosasyon ng mga Dalubhasa, May Hilig at Interes sa Kasaysayan ng Pilipinas, Inc.)
