CALAMBA CITY, Laguna - About 376 Gender and Development (GAD) advocates from LGUs, line agencies and private sectors in CALABARZON recently gathered for the 8th Regional GAD Convention organized by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Region 4A in Cavite province.
In his keynote address, NEDA Usec. Jose Miguel Dela Rosa urged the participants to be part of the country’s development saying, “Kung hindi tayo ang problema, tayo ang solusyon.” (If we are not part of the problem, we are the solution.)
Dela Rosa expressed his profound trust in the government particularlyciting the “Build, Build, Build Project” of the Duterte administration.
Usec. Dela Rosa added he personally believes President Duterte will be the best President in terms of production because of his political will.
On the first day of the 3-day summit, NEDA 4A Assistant Regional Director, Gina Gacusan tackled the importance of Demographic Dividend as window of opportunities and its relation to Philippine and CALABARZON Development Agenda.

Lovely S. Mores, also from NEDA 4A, discussed the Mapping of CALABARZON GAD Initiatives.
Mores lauded the Province of Rizal for consistently having a GAD Plan and Budget in all its municipalities and likewise urged the participants - representatives from LGUs and government agencies, private sectors to uphold gender mainstreaming, commitment to GAD, converge and conduct gender mainstream evaluation.
The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), represented by Deputy Director Maria Kristine Josefina Balmes, called on all the government agencies to uphold women’s rights and gender equality saying, “Sana yung mga Violence Against Women’s (VAW) Desk sa ating mga barangay/munisipyo ay hindi maging desk lamang dahil kadalasan walang tumatao”. (We hope that the Violence Against, Women's (VAW Desk in our barangays and municipalities will not be just be desks without any attending personnel.)
Balmes also shared Estado ni Juana - State of Filipino Women and the Challenges in the Implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action.
She also lauded the GAD implementers of the region and particularly cited the participation of women in the field of sports, government positions and peace and security.
Participants were also encouraged to have a copy of the Gender Fair Media Guidebook launched by PCW in collaboration with Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO), Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and other partners.
Topics presented in the summit include Issues and Challenges, SOGIE, GAD in the SGLG, Gender Fair Language as well as Mainstreaming GAD in Infrastructure Projects. (Cecille Maloles, PIA4A)
