LUCENA CITY - The three Quezon policemen who have been charged with the murder of a town mayor’s son and his aide were ordered dismissed from the police service.
In a resolution dated October 17, signed by Police Regional Office 4-A Brig. General Edward Carranza, the PNP- Regional Internal Affairs Service (RIAS) ordered the dismissal from the service of former Tayabas City police commander Lt. Col. Mark Joseph Laygonand his subnordinates Cpl. Lonald Sumalpong and Pat. Robert Legazpi.
The trio were found guilty of two counts of grave misconduct in connection with the killing of Christian Gayeta, the 21-year-old son of Sariaya, Quezon Mayor Marcelo Gayeta, and his aide Christopher Manalo, 38.
However, the nine other Police Non- Commissioned Officers who were administratively charged before the RIAS were cleared.
Apart from the administrative complaint, Laygo, Sumalpong and Legazpi were charged with double murder by the National Bureau of Investigation before Tayabas City Prosecutor’s Office.
The case is being heard at Lucena City Regional Trial Court, Branch 53 under Judge Dennis Orendain.
