CANDELARIA, QUEZON - An anti-drug operation on Sunday turned bloody when a newly-identified drug suspect was killed after allegedly grabbing the service pistol of a policeman conducting an anti-drug surveillance at Purok 5 in Bgy. Malabanban Sur, here.
Suspect Mike Rhyan Magcawas of Bgy. Sta. Teresita, Sto. Tomas, Batangas, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was declared dead on arrival at the Candelaria District Hospital.
Quezon police director Col. Audie Madrideo said PSsg Samuel Merluza, 38, sustained lacerated wounds on the palm and bruises on the arm in a scuffle with the suspect.
Merluza was brought to the same hospital for treatment.
Town police commander Lt. Col. Jezreel Calderon said his men were conducting surveillance following reports that a drug selling was in progress.
“My men were conducting surveillance when they were spotted by Magcawas, prompting him (suspect) to run away, resulting in the fall of his cal. 38 revolver,” said Calderon.
The cops chased Magcawas until Merluza finally cornered the suspect.
“Magcawas managed to grab Merluza’ service Berreta cal. 9mm pistol after a short brawl and eventually opened fire but missed,” Calderon said.
Merluza’ s fellow officers shot the suspect.
