GUMACA, QUEZON--- Six persons died after the vehicle they were riding in collided with an speeding truck along Maharlika Highway, Brgy. Bamban, here, early yesterday.
Town police commander, Major Rodelio Calawit identified the fatalities as Jimmy, 42, Razel and JM, all surnnamed Bron and residents of Makati City, Francisco Butardo, and Emmanuel Sagrit, both of Antipolo City, Rizal.
Calawit said those who suffered injuries were sisters Fritcie Joyce, Fatima, and Edna, all surnamed Butardo, and residents of Antipolo City and Ulpiano Clores of Camarines Sur.
He said the incident transpired at 5:45 a.m. while the victims were aboard a Tamaraw FX driven by Jimmy on their way to Manila.
Calawit said initial investigation showed that the vehicle partially occupied the left lane of the highway while a Bicol-bound Isuzu truck loaded with cows and driven by Gerome Villar, 40, of Tarlac City was fast approaching from the opposite direction.
"At that point, both vehicles accidentally collided head on", said Calawit over the phone.
On impact, he said Emmanuel and JM died on the spot while Jimmy, Francisco and Razel died on arrival at Gumaca District Hospital by responding policemen.
Of the four injured, he said Clores dustained severe injuiries and now in critical condition.
Calawit said Jimmy reportedly fell asleep while driving.
The truck driver was detained and will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting multiple homicide and physical injury.
