STO. TOMAS, Batangas - World boxing Champion, Senator Manny Pacquiao is set to do a movie on the life and heroism of General Miguel Malvar, the last general to surrender to the Americans during the 1899-1902 Philippine-American war.
The senator will play the leas role as General Miguel Malvar to commemorate the bravery, heroism and sacrifices of Malvar who was born in Sto. Tomas, Batangas.
"Isang malaking karangalan po ang mapili tayo na gumanap bilang si Heneral Malvar. Asahan ninyo gampanan natin iyan nang mahusay at tama," Senator Pacquiao, who was recently adopted as Batangas Province's favorite son, said.
Said film is titled simply "Malvar" and will be helmed by the famous multi-awardee writer-director Jose "Kaka" Balagtas. It was launched as the Batangas Provincial Capital Dream Auditorium in Sto. Tomas City in time for the commemoration of the 154th birth anniversary of Gen. Malvar last September 27.
Balagtas said the movie's principal location will be set at the scenic Fr. Pio National Shrine, property of Malvar's heirs, and the Bay, Laguna, a 40-hectare future site of the Gen. Malvar Ecumezical and Film World Center.
The movie will be produced by JMV Production headed by Jose Malvar Villegas, Jr., a grandson of Gen. Malvar and Chairman of the Kaanak ng mga Bayani ng Himagsikang Pilipino 1896 and Miguel Malvar Production led by Batangas Governor Hermilando Mandanas with the Kamura Farm Ventures Holdings, Inc. of Jewel Camora Castro as associate producer.
