FREE BIKES. Quezon provincial councilors Beth Sio and Reynan Arrogancia (third and fifth from left, respectively) formally turn over free bicycles to 30 high school students in two towns of the province in a ceremony held Tuesday (Oct. 29, 2019) at SM Lucena. The donations came from DCG Radio TV Network in coordination with the Department of Education-Quezon, under its 'Padyak para sa Karunungan' project. (PNA photo by Belinda M. Otordoz) |
Thirty students from Binagbag National High School in Agdangan town and Gov. Anacleto Alcala National High School in Sariaya town were each given a bicycle by the DCG Radio TV Network under its “Padyak para sa Karunungan” program in a ceremony held at the Event Center of SM Lucena.
The project was coordinated with the Department of Education (DepEd) Quezon, which selected the student-beneficiaries who go to school on foot, walking five to eight kilometers from their home to their school every day.
Provincial councilors Reynan Arrogancia and Beth Sio who led the turnover, lauded the project, saying these children were fortunate to be given the bicycles, unlike them who had to walk far to attend their classes or ride in the “paragos”, a caddy pulled by carabaos, during their student days.
Arrogancia advised the children to keep their bicycles in top condition. The students promised to take care of their bikes.
Meanwhile, retired Judge Romeo Villanueva, guest speaker of the event, told the children about three things that they shouldn’t let pass -- time, spoken words and opportunity -- because these are impossible to come again.
DCG Radio TV Network has three FM stations and a TV station that provides solar panel for poor elementary pupils in Barangay Lipata, Padre Burgos, Quezon. (PNA)
