NIA IV-A Regional Manager Romeo Lopez and Alabat Mayor Fernando Mesa led the inauguration of the Kamagong Pump Irrigation Project in Brgy. Villa Jesus Weste, Alabat Quezon on October 23, 2019.

Said event was part of Makapuno Farmers’ Forum program spearheaded by the Local Government Unit of Alabat Quezon. The project will consist of three (3) units of solar pumps and is set to irrigate a total of 19 hectares of agricultural lands.

The 5-Million Pump Irrigation Project aims to increase agricultural productivity, create employment opportunities, and improve living condition of the farmers. The project will irrigate both Rice fields and Macapuno area thru Solar powered pumps, Pump house, and Pipe Canal System.

RM Romeo Lopez in his speech highlighted the importance of irrigation on high value crops like the Makapuno. “Patuloy po kami na susuporta sa pagyabong ng agrikultura sa pamamagitan ng maayos at epektibong patubig”, he added.

The officials from different government agencies, during the latter part of the program, were given a chance to plan ‘Embryo Cultured Makapuno’ (ECM) to signify the start strong and lasting partnership in attaining sustainable Maka puno Industry in the Island of Alabat.
