Lucena City - Women Lucena City - Women empowerment or giving power to women in space of society and achieving gender equality and empower all women and girls with specific targets to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls. This is the strong statement of first lady and 3rd District Congresswoman Aleta Suarez at the recent General Assembly of the Lady Local Legistor’s League of Quezon.
Suarez said the time women just stay at home all day and just follow men has gone.
In this regard, Suarez is now enacting a congressional law relating to concubinage and adultery, saying that women and men should have equal rights. “Panahon na ating ipakita at ipadama sa ating mga anak na mayroon pala tayong karapatan na ipagtanggol ang ating sarili, mayroon taong karapatan na mabuhay at tumulong sa ating mga asawa sa pagpapalaki ng ating mga anak”.
“Women empowerment today requires a shared vision among us women, we should be able to rely on each other, kaya dapat lamang na tayo ay magtulungan, walang ibang tutulong sa atin kundi tayong mga kababaihan”.
Suarez then urged the organization to write a law that would focus on empowering women in the province. Now she said that women have the opportunity to stand up for themselves, it is only necessary to use their intelligence, courage, effort, and self-confidence.
Regardless of the needs of women and local lawmakers in the province, Suarez is confident that she is supporting fellow women in her own office together, the provincial government and the Kalipi Quezon group headed by Atty. Joanna Suarez.
Meanwhile, Ofelia M. Palayan, head of the Provincial and Gender Development Office, hopes to retain the voice of the local legislators for the women of the province.
Palayan added that the community has a great role to play in the community, “Malaki po ang impact ng inyong samahan, you are the voice of women in the legislative body, kayo ang inaasahan namin na inyong ipapadating ang boses ng kababaihan sa inyong respective sanggunian”.
