LUCENA CITY - A jail guard policeman spent a night with immates he was guarding inside a jail àfter he was ordered disarmed and detained after a lady inmate accused him of raping her inside the comfort room of the police station in Atimonan, Quezon.

Police Executive Master Sargeant Romulo Carpio, 45, a resident of Brgy. San Rafael, Sto. Tomas, Batangas and assigned at Atimonan police station who was among the promoted personnel of the station was disarmed of his service pistol and placed behind bars, said Major Alejandro Onquit, commander of Atimonan police station.

Onquit said Carpio was complained by a 49 year- old inmate of raping her while she was taking a bath inside the comfort room of the police station on the morning of November 24.

The inmate who has been detained since Nov. 23 over theft charges said Carpio suddenly barged in at 11:15 a.m. and sexually assaulted her.

According to Onquit, the lady inmate told him her ordeal on the morning of Nov. 25, while Carpio along with other promoted policemen were at Camp Nakar, here, to attend the doning of ranks ceremony.

“Noong malaman ng biktima na nasa Lucena si Carpio ay nagsumbong siya sa akin kinabukasan. Kaya agad ko naman punaimbestigahan sa aming WCPD (Women and Children’s Protection Desk) ang insidente”, said Onquit.

He said the lady inmate was then brought to the hospital for examination and the result was positive, prompting them to file appropriate charges against Carpio.

“So, I immediately informed our provincial director, Col. Audie Madrideo of the incident and hebpromptly ordered Carpio’s arrest.

In a phone interview, Madrideo said his order to arrest his own policeman is a clear manifestation that the Quezon Police Provincial Office (QPPO) does not and will never tolerate any of its personnel accused of committing abuses and wrongdoing.

“That’s why the PNP has the so- called Internal Cleansing Process aimed at ridding out eering cops in its own rank”, said Madrideo.

He said the campaign against “rotten eggs” in the PNP is among the top advocacies of Calabarzon police director, Brigadier Gen. Vicente Danao, Jr.

However, Onquit said the prosecutor handling the case eventually ordered Carpio’ s release from jail for further investigation.

Complying with the order, Onquit said Carpio was released and is presently under restriction at the Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit in Camp Nakar pending the investigation.
